Three days of high passes with a night on the Grossglockner
Three days, three countries, about 910 km, ten cars. We start at the Walensee, cross the Flüela pass into Tyrol and spend the first night in Sölden. Day two runs over the Timmelsjoch into Italy and back into Austria on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, where we sleep high on the mountain at the Kaiser Franz-Josef-Haus. Day three opens with sunrise at the Edelweißspitze. Then home over the Arlberg.

Day 1

Friday, 20 August 2027
We meet at the Walensee service area and drive up the Prättigau through Klosters to Davos, where the Flüela pass rises to 2,383 m through bare rock. After lunch at the hospice on the summit we descend into the Engadin and follow the Inn valley into Tyrol, staying off the motorway over the Piller Sattel before the final climb through the Ötztal to Sölden.

Saturday, 21 August 2027
Leaving Sölden early, we climb the Timmelsjoch at 2,474 m into Italy and cross the Jaufenpass to lunch in Sterzing. In the afternoon the route follows the Pustertal east and turns north over the Staller Sattel into the quiet Defereggental, before the Grossglockner High Alpine Road takes us over the Hochtor at 2,504 m to our hotel high on the mountain.

Sunday, 22 August 2027
The day begins with sunrise at the Edelweißspitze, the highest point you can reach by car on the Grossglockner road, followed by the descent on the north side to Zell am See. From there we climb the Gerlos pass to lunch in Gerlos, then descend into the Zillertal and follow the Inn valley to Landeck before crossing the Arlberg on the way back to St. Gallen.
