OUR VIEW

A V12 grand cruiser, ready to be driven

The Series 3 is the E-Type for long days, since the V12 pulls cleanly from low revs and the power steering and long wheelbase keep it settled at speed. You step out at the end of the day feeling rested.

Since November 2025 we have put more than CHF 20,000 into the mechanics, the body and the interior. It is now in excellent condition, detailed and ceramic-coated, and ready to be driven rather than restored.

Our ratings use one scale shared by every car we list.

Engagement ★★★★★

There is room for tall drivers and a V12 you drive on torque, happiest on fast, flowing roads rather than hairpins.

Ownership ★★★★☆

A typical V12 that needs regular but ordinary attention, with parts easy to find and smoothness that repays it.

Usability ★★★☆☆

Power steering, a usable boot and heat-resistant mats that keep the V12's heat out of the cabin.

Touring ★★★★☆

Tall gearing and a relaxed engine make 300 km days easy. Hood down, the wind is the limit, not the car.

Delivered new in the USA kept in France for four decades

HISTORY

The Series 3 arrived in 1971 with Jaguar's new 5.3-litre V12 and was the final series of the E-Type. Both body styles shared a 105-inch wheelbase, which gives the roadster its calm, long-legged character on the open road and at speed.

This car was delivered new in the USA in 1972 in Willow Green, moved to France in the early 1980s and was repainted British Racing Green. Two long-term French owners kept it until 2025, invoices go back to 1995 and period photographs are on file.

CONDITION

Checked by us and open to your own inspection

2 Excellent

Sorted where it counts and backed by invoices, with solid metal, overhauled mechanicals, a new soft top and a restored interior. The 40 to 50-year-old paint is the exception, and we have left it honest.

1 Concours | 2 Excellent | 3 Very Good | 4 Good

Engine and gearbox resealed, with cooling, carburettors and ignition overhauled and invoices on file.

Mechanical

Paint

Paint 40 to 50 years old with a few chips and marks, an honest patina, detailed and ceramic-coated.

Repainted and converted to an open two-seater in the early 1980s, numbers matching per Jaguar Heritage.

Originality

Running gear

Front suspension, steering and rear differential all refurbished in the work finished in August 2026.

Restored in 2026 with heat mats, insulation, sound deadening, carpets and cushions, original leather kept.

Body

Solid metal, no rust. Sills and rear underbody restored, rust-protected and repainted in 2026.

Interior

WORTH KNOWING

The Jaguar Heritage Certificate records the car as a factory 2+2 in Willow Green.

The seat leather shows its age, and the old paint keeps its chips and marks on purpose.
